The Cooking Flea was created by Carmen Castrovillari, in 2020, as a food blog with the sole aim to share easy vegan recipes. The blog eventually evolved into a supper club when Carmen - chef and owner - opened the doors of her kitchen to the public and realised that there is no greater joy for her than having guests feasting around the table. She strongly believes that food brings people together, no matter what language they speak: her supper clubs are all about enjoying delicious food and sharing stories with other foodies, for a sociable yet intimate experience like no other.

Due to the popularity of her home-based supper club, Carmen is now hosting larger events across Bristol and she has recently introduced other services such as private chef, freelancing & menu development for restaurants, cooking classes and catering for small events. She also specialises in food styling and creates ad-hoc content for local businesses' social media.

Calabria-born, Carmen is passionate about what she does and her love for food grew as part of her identity as she spent her childhood in the kitchen with her “bisnonna” and “mamma”. She takes great pride in bringing cruelty-free and Southern-Italian-inspired cuisine to the Bristol food scene. 

All the food Carmen serves is homemade and vegan, prepared fresh on the day using seasonal and mostly local produce.

Her aim is to turn boring plants into wonders and to make everyone fall in love with plant-based cuisine.
