Growing Confidence in Business with AllBright

As a freelance creative, I was overjoyed to be offered an AllBright digital membership to check it out for City Girl Network. I first heard about this mysterious creative women’s members club via my Hairdresser in 2019. We were both equally impressed by the idea, but what went on behind closed doors I was yet to find out 2 years later.

As we all know, 2020 was a tricky one to say the least, but what it did give a lot of us was time. Time to reflect, to create and perhaps start trying to consciously make better choices. I had professional dancer friends turn around and say they had a passion for candle making and were going to start a business, others returning to uni to study economics.

I spent summer 2020 like so many; stacking up my bookshelves with titles such as Women Don’t Owe You Pretty by Florence Given and How Do we know we’re doing it right? by Pandora Sykes. However, how did I plan to put what I learnt from reading into practice?

Creative skills I have, business skills, not so much. My partner recently joked that I would probably accept work in return for a Victoria Sponge Cake. Hilarious. But all joking aside, they make a good point as it probably wouldn’t be surprising if I did. This is where AllBright steps in.

Founded by Debbie Wosskow and Anna Jones, opening their first London club in 2018, AllBright states “We wanted to provide a space to host our community of brilliant and smart-minded women, with a unique environment to connect, create and collaborate. Our beautiful, designed spaces are created by women, for women.”

AllBright has so much to offer its members. The ‘Academy’ is an online platform and a huge benefit of the membership. It is bursting with online courses covering topics ranging from confidence, well-being, personal development, and networking. Lessons that I have needed, but often learnt the hard way (ft the Victoria Sponge).

Current courses include Finding Resilience and Balance as a Freelancer with Elle Halliwell, Developing Effective Emotional Resilience in the Workplace with Nicole Pitts and The Discomfort Zone with Farrah Storr.

As a woman who is constantly underselling myself, or accepting lower rates than I would like for fear of losing the reduced amount of work I have had over the pandemic (not cool). The AllBright ‘Academy’ has genuinely taught me invaluable lessons within my first two weeks.

The first course I took, Having the Confidence to Go After What You Want with Nicola Mendelsohn (if you don’t know who Nicola is, get googling!), gave me the confidence to actually say no to a job offer the following week. Prior to taking the course, I would’ve wanted to say no, but would I have said anything? Probably not.

AllBright also provides “Sisterhood Matching”. Something that certainly resonates with City Girl Network! As soon as I signed up for my membership, it was suggested that I share my reasons for joining, select a list of goals and write a little bio of what I do. This enabled me to link up with like-minded women to potentially collaborate and expand my network.

I can see just how invaluable this networking platform is, especially as a creative freelancer in the current pandemic. Similar to City Girl, AllBright enables you to connect with women where you otherwise may not ever have met. A total lifesaver to a lot of us.
