Inspiration for Christmas Jumper Day
Christmas Jumper Day (yes, it does exist!) is the perfect excuse for some much-needed, over-the-top, Christmas cheer. Run annually in aid of Save the Children, the aim is to raise as much money as possible whilst having fun. So, whether you’re into the demure Nordic style, cute animals or an all-out sparkly pompom bonanza, our edit has some inspiration for you in time for 11th December!
Want something a little special? We’ve found these two Christmas jumpers that can be personalised to show off you or your pooch. Choose your hair colour and outfit or the breed and fur colour, seeing your pet join you on this festive occasion. This also makes an ideal Christmas present for dog-lovers later in the month.
If you’re all about the fun festive jumper, then look no further than Amazon, a treasure trove of quirky designs. From elves, Santa’s, snowflakes, T-rexe’s and reindeers, there’s something to suit everyone’s taste. Perhaps you can try out matching couple’s jumpers for the day or twin yours with that of your children or pets to make it a real family affair.
Or, for the creative among us, why not give knitting your own a go. Now, you’re probably not going to make it in time for this Christmas Jumper Day (unless you can knit 24/7, which is absolutely fine if you love it that much!), but you can prep it for next year. Alternatively, enlist a friend (perhaps with the promise of chocolates) to help you make one.
Etsy has some great knitting patterns, but also full kits, with all the instructions and essential knitting equipment provided. The added benefit of this lovely, scarlet kit is that the yarn comes with it – the perfect hobby to while away some relaxation time. You could also decorate this simple jumper (available in numerous colours) yourself with added pompoms, bells around the collar or bows made from Christmas-themed ribbon.
If you don’t know how to knit, don’t worry! You can use the festive period to learn with free online tutorials, such as those from Sheep and Stitch, with accompanying videos. It can provide some great evening relaxation – read all about the health benefits of crafting here.
And if all of that you-time is accompanied by a tipple, why not include that in your Christmas jumper with this gin-themed number.
I’ve been preparing my own snowflake jumper to bring some joy to Christmas 2020. You can find loads of free knitting patterns here. And if you can’t knit, see if there are any other City Girl’s out there who can and use it as an excuse to learn a new skill and socialise at the same time (Zoom knitting sessions, anyone?)!
However, you choose to style your Christmas Jumper Day, enjoy it, share your jumpers with us on Instagram and don’t forget to donate £2 to Save the Children to help change lives for the better.
