How A Vision Board Can Help You Achieve Your Goals

As someone who has made my own vision boards, I’ve learned it’s more than placing images onto a poster board, as pretty as that may look- There's work to be done before that! Not just is it about getting a clear vision of your authentic life, it’s also about letting go of what’s in the way, and clearly being able to connect to your dreams.

So What Is A Vision Board?

A vision board is a tool that refers to a board of any sort used to build a collage of words and pictures that represent your goals and dreams. Basically, your vision for an ideal life.

The Importance Of Goal Setting And Vision Boards

Vision boards are the secret to success for many well-known personalities such as Tony Robbins, Katy Perry and Oprah Winfrey. By representing our goals with images, we can reinforce and stimulate our emotions because our minds respond strongly to visual stimulation.

Our vision board images create a memory in our minds and reminds our brain that this is our goal. This is where we need to be. All you have to do is create that picture and truly feel into these end goals.

A Meditation To Gain Clarity On Your 5 Year Future Self

Before we can decide what to place on our vision boards, we need to get clear what we want in life.

The best way to do this is to find a quiet space, breathe deeply for several minutes and visualise yourself happiest highest self. Imagine you are meeting your future 5 year self.

Where are you?

What 3 qualities do you possess?

What have you achieved?

What advice would you give to your present self?

What do you need to let go of?

Slowly breathe out of your meditation and make some notes under each of the above.

Goal Setting Exercise

Now that we have an idea of what we want to achieve within the next 5 years, we can set some short term goals in order to help us get there.

Take 30 minutes or so to map out some 1 year goals across various areas of your life, such as personal development, relationships, career/finance, assets and adventures. For example; passing your driving test, or learning how to build a website. Keep it simple but be specific.

How To Create Your Very Own Vision Board

Begin to research images online and create a representation of all of the things you saw in your future 5 year self meditation. You can create your board digitally in Canva, or manually if you are feeling extra creative! Incorporate the words and advice from your future self.

How To Actively Manifest Your Vision Board Goals

  1. Place your vision board somewhere you can easily view it.

  2. Take a picture of your vision board if created manually, or resize your vision board if created digitally, and set it as your desktop and mobile screensaver or background.

  3. Take some time to regularly meditate and really feel into each part of your vision and connect with how it would feel to have already achieved these things. Embody the personality traits that your future self holds. Feels good doesn't it?

  4. Review your yearly written goals on a quarterly basis. Are you still aligned with these goals? How much progress have you made? Do you need to review them?
