Where To Find The Best Burgers In Birmingham
Ahead of International Burger Day, a day that to me I’d happily have as a public holiday, I wanted to share my favourite burger joints in Birmingham. For me, there are 2 that immediately spring to mind as my favourites, Original Patty Men and Bonehead, but there are also some crazy good burgers (especially veggie ones!) hiding elsewhere.
Original Patty Men
For filthy burgers of every variety
Original Patty Men is an institution, starting as a food truck and then moving to a railway arch in Digbeth. Because of the cramped environment, they’re still operating on delivery and take out only but they are also doing Patty at Home kits on their website.
I absolutely love the Alabama Slammer and have tried on a number of occasions options from their specials board. Everything I’ve ever had is fantastic and when open there’s a great drinks menu available.
Bonehead
For the chicken fans
Bonehead is a bar and fried chicken joint, a stone’s throw from New Street Station, and I’ve been on more than one first date here. You can’t book in advance so normally you have to queue in the bar downstairs, or if that’s full pop next door to Cherry Reds.
Again, at the moment, they’re not back open for restaurant service but they are available for delivery. My personal favourite is the Hothead which features their comeback sauce.
The Patty Freaks
For the carnivores
A regular at Digbeth Dining Club, which is now diversifying with a number of socially distanced offerings this summer, The Patty Freaks have a cult following. They do offer a veggie version, but on the whole this is very beef heavy with the Dirty South including: a smashed beef patty, American cheese, crispy onions, bbq sauce, garlic mayo and pickled onions in a brioche bun.
And now for some veggie options…
Natural Bar and Kitchen
For all vegan
Sadly, Natural Bar and Kitchen is currently closed but my word, their burgers are fabulous. If you don’t already, follow their Instagram so that you can see when they reopen. Their a la carte menu has some great options such as their popular tofu ‘fish’ and chips, but for me it’s all about the burgers. I managed to get their Mexican Burger on special and it was fantastic.
The Worker Cafe
For a worker owned option
This could be my favourite place in Birmingham at all, it’s a coop so is owned by its workers who run a fabulous vegan cafe. Although normally open for longer hours The Warehouse Cafe is currently offering eat in and take away on Fridays and Saturdays. The menu is subject to change but the dirty kebab burger is probably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had.
I’ve always had a soft spot for veggie burgers but the burgers here are just absolutely filthy.
