Meeting Laylo: Sustainable and Affordable Luxury Boxed Wine

With the festive season days away from kicking off in full swing, we've been on the hunt for the ultimate food and drinks products to make every Christmas and New Years Party this year extra special. And it's with this hunt that we discovered Laylo, the luxury boxed wine company created in lockdown by two London Girls.

Their beautifully designed box wines are both a sustainable and affordable solution to anyone wanting to buy luxury wine without breaking the bank and limiting their environmental impact. Priced from £32.99 per three-bottle box, including free next-day delivery throughout the UK, these delicious wines last for 6 weeks after opening.

We've tried it and we love it.

With all our fangirling of Laylo wines, we were thrilled to chat to the founders and find out more about the story behind the idea.

How did Laylo begin?

Laylo started with a moment of serendipity during the 2020 summer lockdown. We’d both independently had the idea to create a luxury boxed wine brand, but it was only when Laura Rosenberger texted Laura Riches (yes, it gets confusing!) to ask for some advice that we realised the coincidence.

A week later we compared notes and it turned out we shared the same vision… top quality wines in beautiful boxes, which could be proudly displayed on your countertop. It was a no-brainer to join forces - and Laylo was born.

You're being stocked at Selfridges from 1st - 5th December as part of A South London Marker's Market Pop-Up. How did that opportunity come around?

We are big fans of shopping from small, independent businesses, so A South London Makers Market was on our radar for personal as well as professional reasons. The founders, Olivia and Daisy, have an eye for beautiful, hand-crafted products.

We applied to take part in their August market in Crystal Palace, where our wines proved to be a hit! Having launched in lockdown, it was an amazing opportunity to sample the wines with real customers and to hear their feedback. We were absolutely delighted when ASLMM selected us as one of 16 brands to appear in their Selfridges popup.

What experience are you hoping that people will have with Laylo?

We believe that you shouldn’t have to wait for a special occasion to drink great wine! So we love the idea of Laylo customers pouring themselves a glass ‘just because’... And if they have the opportunity to share a few glasses with friends, even better.

One of the best bits of starting Laylo has been receiving the photos of customers sinking into the sofa with a glass, or boxes sitting centre-stage at their dinner parties!

Being London Girls, where are your favourite spots to hang out in the city?

Laura Riches: I live in West London and love afternoons spent pottering down Portobello Road, particularly treating myself to a nice book from Lutyens & Rubinstein. My daughter Sylvia is 3 years old, so we don’t get out for dinner as much as we used to. But for the occasional date night, my husband and I love pizza and a carafe of good Italian red at Pizza East.

Laura Rosenberger: I could write pages and pages about all the places I love in East London! If I had to pick, I’d have brunch at The Attendant, have a mooch down Redchurch Street or do a class at Frame, then head to Dishoom for dinner (or BRAT if I’m feeling fancy!)

And finally, for the hardest question... what's your favourite Laylo wine for taking to parties?

Laura Riches: It has to be our new Toscana! The wine inside is delicious… If it was in a glass bottle, we could call it a Chianti DOCG which is a designer label for wine. Plus the box is my favourite yet, using a genuine fresco from Florence Cathedral.

Laura Rosenberger: Our rosé is the perfect party wine, any time of the year! It’s such a fun, easy drinking wine, and the box is perfect for drinks with the girls!
