Review
Words can not describe (but our video on Instagram can)how amazing the Chers were. There was a lot I didn’t realise about Cher’s life, but then why would we with six decades of Stardom? You could feel the audience resonate with her in different parts of her life, the shock in people’s faces when going through her love life and the cheer when Star says ‘she is the rich man’ when her mother told her to marry a rich man.
From the moment those flickering lights came on, it was smiles all round for Royal Brighton Theatre. Choreographer, Oti Mabuse has hit it out the park with the incredible performances per song. Fashion has always matched with music and the costumes of all three Chers there were ‘wow’s!’ coming from the audience per changeover. Cher was known for her high maintenance look and the zero fear she has to go above the rest and that’s exactly what the costumes showcased.
The story of Cher is portrayed by three Chers. The show starts with younger Cher(Millie O’Connell), known as Babe, who tells the story of the dreamer Cher who’s career started from her motivating mother and a listen to Cinderella and continues with finding love through stardom.
Next was the middle Cher(Danielle Steers, whose voice has got to be one of the best in theatre i’ve listened too.), known as Lady where her iconic outfits boomed and realisation of having her life ran by men and then current Cher, Star(Debbie Kurup) showing us her stardom, becoming an award-winning actress and how easy it is to forget to look after yourself when you are so tied up in the fans.
Standout Quote or Moment: When Lady talks to her mum and says ‘I am the rich man’
See If: You enjoy a fun-filled empowering musical
Last Impression: An outstanding show with some of the best vocals in theatre
